SINTX Technologies Expands Horizons with Aerospace Components and Advanced Medical Implants

$SINT

SINTX Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SINT), a prominent developer and manufacturer of advanced ceramic materials, has recently announced a significant expansion of its product line beyond its traditional medical implant applications. This strategic move involves the supply of silicon nitride components for aerospace applications, marking a pivotal shift in the company’s operational focus. The company, known for its expertise in the medical sector, has successfully entered into a Long-Term Agreement (LTA) to manufacture jet engine components from its high-quality silicon nitride material. This development followed an extensive two-year qualification process of SINTX’s operational and quality management systems. The agreement underscores the company’s innovative approach to manufacturing, which now includes components designed for the rigorous demands of the aerospace industry.

Dave O’Brien, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at SINTX, highlighted the company’s journey from producing medical implants to embracing the challenges of aerospace component manufacturing. The transition involved enhancing their manufacturing capabilities under an AS9100D certified quality management system, tailored to meet the aerospace industry’s stringent standards. The LTA is set to run until the end of 2026, with options for renewal, reflecting a long-term commitment to meeting the aerospace industry’s needs. This agreement allows SINTX to fully meet customer requirements for aerospace components, provided they continue to adhere to the specified quality, delivery and purchase order metrics.

In addition to aerospace components, SINTX continues to innovate in the medical sector. The company has been awarded a Phase II grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop a 3D printed composite silicon nitride – polyetheretherketone (SN-PEEK) spinal implant. This grant, which totals approximately $1.97 million, supports the company’s efforts to combine the benefits of PEEK with the antibacterial and osteoconductive properties of silicon nitride.

The development of 3DP SN-PEEK spinal implants is a testament to SINTX’s commitment to advancing spinal health technologies. The implants are designed to meet established mechanical testing standards and demonstrate significant biocompatibility and resistance to bacterial adhesion. These advancements are crucial for the next phase of regulatory approvals and commercialization.

Collaboration remains a cornerstone of SINTX’s strategy. The company has partnered with the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) and other institutions to push forward the development and testing of these innovative implants. These collaborations are integral to the company’s strategy to enhance the antibacterial and osseointegration properties of its products. Moreover, the corporation is not limiting its technological advancements to the medical and aerospace sectors alone. A recent collaboration with 3DCERAM Sinto, Inc. aims to develop novel resins and processes for the additive manufacturing of ceramic products. This partnership is expected to yield high-value solutions for the biomedical and investment casting industries, further diversifying SINTX’s product offerings and market reach.

As SINTX Technologies continues to expand its capabilities and explore new market opportunities, its commitment to innovation and quality remains evident. The company’s ability to adapt and evolve its technology portfolio ensures it remains at the forefront of the advanced ceramics industry, meeting the diverse needs of its expanding customer base. The ongoing developments and strategic collaborations highlight the firm’s role as a key player in both the medical and technical ceramics sectors, poised to deliver superior quality products across various industries.
