In the United States, the reliance on imported uranium, particularly from Russia, has prompted a strategic reassessment. The Biden Administration is now looking to bolster domestic production and secure supplies from allies such as Canada. Curtis Moore, senior vice president of marketing at Energy Fuels, pointed out the country’s abundant in-ground uranium resources and the potential to revive its processing capacity, which has declined over the past decades.

The resurgence of the uranium industry in the US faces significant challenges, with new mining operations requiring extensive timeframes to become operational. According to Thor Energy’s Galloway Warland, the process from inception to completion, including obtaining necessary permits, can span five to 15 years.
