Carmax Enhances Used Electric Vehicle Buying Experience With New Tools And Resources

(NYSE:KMX), the largest retailer of used cars in the United States, recently unveiled a series of strategic initiatives aimed at improving the used electric vehicle (EV) buying experience. These initiatives include partnerships with innovative companies to introduce an advanced battery health assessment tool, a $200 credit for certain in-home charger installations and the launch of the CarMax EV Hub, an online educational resource.

The newly introduced battery health assessment tool is designed to provide crucial information on battery longevity and performance, addressing one of the primary concerns of used EV buyers regarding battery life. This tool, developed in collaboration with Recurrent, offers a battery range score on EVs listed in CarMax’s inventory and directs consumers to Recurrent’s website for detailed reports on expected battery degradation and other key metrics.

To further ease the transition to electric vehicles, CarMax has partnered with Treehouse, a software-enabled installation platform for electrification projects, to facilitate the installation of Level 2 home chargers. Customers who choose to install a charger through Treehouse will receive a one-time $200 installation credit, making the setup both cost-effective and convenient.

Additionally, CarMax has rolled out a badge on its website to highlight vehicles that may qualify for the federal used EV tax credit, which can be up to $4,000. This feature simplifies the shopping process by clearly identifying eligible vehicles, thereby assisting consumers in making informed purchasing decisions. The CarMax EV Hub complements these tools by providing a comprehensive resource for potential EV buyers.

The hub offers detailed guides on what to consider when shopping for an EV, an online quiz to help determine if an EV is suitable for their needs and access to proprietary EV testing methodologies and cost estimates provided by Edmunds, a subsidiary of CarMax. Terence Rasmussen, VP of Business & Corporate Development at CarMax, emphasized the company’s commitment to leading the used EV sector and enhancing the customer experience. “Our strategic partnerships and enhancements are designed to empower consumers with all the tools and resources they need in their shopping journey, improving the used EV purchasing experience,” said Rasmussen.
